ISPAL - who we are and what we do

ISPAL (The Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure) is the professional membership body for a fast growing, vibrant industry, representing sport, parks and leisure industry professionals.

We were formed in January 2007 by the amalgamation of two previous bodies, ILAM (The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management) and NASD (The National Association of Sports Development). We aim to continue and improve upon on their good work, reaching a wider group of stakeholders, and providing support, advocacy and professional development for those involved in the sports, parks and leisure industries.

ISPAL will serve and represent this workforce and we aim to offer you, our members, unrivalled value and a great number of benefits.

What we do

The cornerstones of ISPAL’s services can be summarised as follows:

Learning and Development
ISPAL provides continuing professional development (CPD) for its members, as well as offering a wide range of training courses at venues across the country. We also offer in-house training courses so if there is a particular subject area that your team requires support and development in, our trainers can visit your offices and deliver the training. Our aim is to launch a new professional qualifications scheme for the industry by March 2010.

Professional Development Board
The recently formed ISPAL Professional Development Board will guide and support the Learning & Development strategy going forwards ensuring that ISPAL fulfils its role in the market place and takes responsibility for promoting high standards of professional skills and expertise to individuals within the industry.

Conferences and Events
ISPAL will be holding four main events in 2009. These are:
  • The Outdoor Activities Conference, 21st May
  • 'Inspiring a More Active Society' Conference, 2nd-3rd July
  • ISPAL Scottish Conference, September
  • The National Sports Development Seminar, November
As well as these major conferences, ISPAL will look to regularly host regional meetings so please continue to take a look at our events calendar to make sure that you take the chance to meet the team.

Information
ISPAL offers all members FREE access to the renowned information hub, with full-time service support. So the next time you need articles on your subject area don't waste time with a search engine and then trawl through million of pages, let us provide you with the exact information you need. We also send out a weekly e-zine to keep all our members up to date with the latest industry news and jobs. We have also launched INFORM, our full-colour quarterly members’ magazine.

Shape sector policy
ISPAL is working hard to influence government policy in the areas which affect our members. We have already got a constructive dialogue with government in England and Scotland, and we are looking to build on this and to establish a relationship with government in Wales. At the time when the need to combat obesity and raise the activity levels of the UK’s population, there hasn’t been a better time for ISPAL’s voice to contribute to policy-making at the highest levels.

Be a part of and shape your industry with membership of ISPAL.
